International Dot Day Spotlight: Robinson School, Puerto Rico

From musical dots, to digital dots to marks of inspiration, The Robinson School in Puerto Rico truly made their mark!

The Robinson School is the first English-speaking and college-preparatory school in Puerto Rico. The school is an authorized International Baccalaureate school for the Primary Years Program, the Middle Years Program and the Diploma Program. Education at Robinson strongly emphasizes community service and philanthropy. Their school promotes academic, athletic, and artistic excellence and allows their students to flourish and excel.

For the fifth year, they celebrated International Dot Day during the entire week of Sept. 15.

This year, the elementary students participated in different activities related to making a dot and reflecting on how they can leave their mark on the world. The school made a special connection between Visual Arts, through Spiritual Life, Microsoft Skills, and Music.

The Dot Day team connected with Airdremaliz Ortiz, the Elementary Visual Arts teacher, at the school to learn more about the celebration.

How many years have you celebrated Dot Day?

I have been celebrating this event since I arrived at Robinson School in 2013; 5 years in a row.

What did you do this year for dot day?

I coordinated a special integration between the specialists. After obtaining supervisors' approval, created a chat via Microsoft Teams to share all the things related to the event. I sent an invitation via Microsoft Teams Faculty Hub, to all the Elementary Faculty to join this International event. I shared with them all the resources available on the International Dot Day website.

What was one aha moment during this year's event?

How excited all the students were with the activity, their level of reflection about the story and the lesson behind something simple. Now some of them call me the dot teacher, I used to be called Mrs. Air or the Art teacher… this event left a positive mark on them… they created, reflected, and went home talking about this.

When asked if she had any tips or tricks to celebrate Dot Day, Mrs. Air and her amazing team created an entire presentation!
