Celebrating International Dot Day at The Boch Center Shubert Theatre with Flip

Dots, questions from around the world, and a giant birthday cake - the perfect way to celebrate International Dot Day. Marking the 15th celebration of Dot Day and the 20th anniversary of The Dot - the book that started it all - Paul and Peter H. Reynolds welcomed a live audience of over 1,200 students from across Massachusetts to The Boch Center Shubert Theatre  in Boston for a live-streamed global celebration with Microsoft Flip. 

This year’s Dot Day saw the numbers rise to 27 million people in 200 countries and sovereign territories celebrating the grassroots “creativity and courage” movement, started in 2009 by Terry Shay, a teacher in Iowa. Inspired by New York Times best-selling author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds’ classic storybook for all ages, The Dot, this global celebration inspires young and old to embrace the power of personal creativity to help make their mark on the world, and move it to a better place. 

On Friday, Sept. 15, the Shubert Theater was filled with eager elementary school students from the L. G. Nourse Elementary School, the Lowell Community Charter Public School, and the Josiah Quincy Elementary School. Their energy fueled the excitement that took place on stage when Ann Kozma of Flip welcomed creativity champions Paul and Peter H. Reynolds to the stage. 

Reaching hundreds of thousands students from around the world, the Flip event truly connected the international dots. Peter and Paul were honored to celebrate Huitong School, the first AmbassaDOT school in China, and present the first ever Make Your Mark award to Joe Spaulding, retiring President and CEO of the Boch Center.
